BLOW POP Featuring new work by Brandon Andrew & Kayla Mattes November 11, 2011 (One night only!) Open Reception 11/11/11, 6-10pm Art Is Shit Editions – 642 Moulton Ave W12, Los Angeles, CA 90031 LOS ANGELES – Art Is Shit Editions proudly announces their first exhibition BLOW POP located in the newly opened gallery and print shop within The Brewery artist complex. BLOW POP will feature new installations and exclusive limited edition prints by artists Brandon Andrew and Kayla Mattes. Deeply inspired by Samuel Beckett’s End Game, Brandon Andrew investigates the burden inherent to celebration through the naivete of nostalgia. Andrew uses toys and games from elementary school blacktops to invite his audience to engage with the work- only to find that there is no way in, imposing an existential crisis of fun. Kayla Mattes newest collection of textiles, and prints looks to the adolescence of the PC as a reference point to invite her viewer into the world of kitsch kid-culture of the 1990′s and its relationship to the digital culture of the present. Her use of pixelated pop iconography exposes sincerity steeped in nostalgia. For BLOW POP, Mattes further develops contemporary notions of ephemera through the use of inflatable game boards, and relevant consumer products. Our first exhibition continues to promote Art Is Shit Editions mission: to provide passionate art collectors of all levels access to premium quality artwork and limited editions prints by emerging contemporary artists who challenge and push the boundaries of art today. ###### Inquires please contact Ryan McIntosh – ryan@artisshit.com
